FASTEF Heat exchanger tube rupture simulation

Vincent Moreau
Rapport de recherche , CRS4 - september 2011
The aim of this calculation report is to present CFD simulations of a Primary Heat eXchanger (PHX) tube rupture incidental scenario for two design variants of the FASTEF PHX/PP assembly, in the framework of the CDT European project. The simulation domain reproduces with some simplification the entire primary coolant loop. The objective is to understand whether it is necessary to take some counter-measures to avoid the ingress of steam in the cold plenum. The simulation has been performed on two successive update of the design and nominal operation. The simulations show a good resistance to steam ingress under the condition that additional penetrations are organised to avoid an excessive accumulation of steam inside the PHX/PP assembly casing.
