Based on an analysis of the micro-organization of the human cornea, an anisotropic, micromechanically based finite deformation material model of the structured stromal tissue is proposed. As opposed to most models available in literature, this model is able to account for the specific micro-heterogeneity of the human cornea. Its potential in realistically prediction the non linear, large strain mechanical behaviour of the human cornea is demonstrated through some applications.
