In the framework of several European projects, CRS4 has given a large contribution and has gained an important expertise in the modelling and numerical simulation of various experimental facilities developed in support of the LMFRs design. The CFD models are more and more reliable and can be successfully used to support the experimental activities while being validated through the comparison with the databases generated in the experiments. By means of the CFD simulation, direct support to the design conception, realisation and operation of the experimental facilities can be provided as well as support to the successful realisation of the experimental campaigns.
In this poster, some of the most relevant CFD models are illustrated, such as the Control Rod insertion simulated during the MAXSIMA project, the investigation of the lead solidification in the SESAME-Stand experimental facility and the CFD modelling of the ALFRED primary coolant loop, performed during the SESAME project. Currently, in the framework of the PATRICIA, PASCAL and ANSELMUS projects, the CFD modelling of the CIRCE-THETIS facility, the investigation of the sloshing phenomena and the modelling of the Safety Rod insertion are in progress and some relevant aspects will be highlighted.
